How to make a flawless term paper: step-by-step instructions

When you are tasked with writing a term paper, there are many steps you should follow in order to make sure that the finished product is flawless.

Pick your topic. This is perhaps one of the more important foundational components to the term paper, seeing as in many cases you have the freedom to select anything as it relates to your coursework or field of study. When selecting various ideas you should brainstorm, read over textbooks, review course notes, and reflect. Pick one or two topics at the onset so that you have a backup in case the first falls through.

Craft your preliminary hypothesis. Remain flexible in this because you may find that during rudimentary research, all of the available sources indicate that your hypothesis is incorrect or that the opposite hypothesis is correct. If you are flexible you should be able to account for such discoveries and make any necessary changes. Once that is done, make a list of the things you already know about your subject and those things you still need to discover. This list should serve as the basis for your research such that the things you still need to know should be the answers you search for during your research phase.

Make an Outline.

The outline is an important yet often underappreciated component. Students who have good outlines will have even better final theses. The outline is where you can play around with the order and the presentation and verify that you have the necessary evidence.

Edit one chapter at a time.

You will not be able to retain the focus necessary to sit down and edit everything in one day no matter how much you think you can. So set aside a few days in which to work on editing for one chapter at a time. This will make it a much less stressful process.

Proofread your chapters multiple times.

When you do this, you should print out a tangible copy of each chapter and spend one read-through searching for one particular aspect at a time such as spelling the first time, grammar the second time, etc… This will help you to pick out smaller errors that you might have missed otherwise.

Work on one chapter at a time.

Set up a work schedule for your writing. Make a writing goal for each day. This can be anywhere between 300 and 500 words per day. Having this goal will help you meet all of your deadlines quickly without rushing at the last minute. Try to work on whatever chapter is readiest to be written first and work backward from there.
